Plastic or wood?
Plastic pallets are not an alternative to wooden pallets on price – that is unquestionable. Instead plastic pallets have other decisive benefits. In the foodstuffs, hygiene and cleanroom areas in particular, there is no alternative to plastic pallets. The Utz H/HR pallets fulfil the requirements of the EHI (European Retail Institute) for hygiene pallets and comply with the DIN 15141 pallet standard as well as the SGL recommendation 120.01 to 120.05.

Utz plastic pallets offer the following advantages:

• no splinters, no nails, therefore no danger of rusting
• no sharp edges
• acid and alkali resistant
• dimensionally stable and temperature-resistant
• non-smell absorbent
• designed for fork lifts
• do not absorb water, therefore consistent in weight
• not subject to rotting or fungal growth
• Euro and ISO standard dimensions
• compliance with SGL recommendation

Constant weight
In contrast to wooden pallets, plastic pallets have a constant tare weight.

Hygiene
High-bay rackable Hygiene Pallets (H/HR pallets) are totally enclosed. This makes them easy to clean and provides no starting points for dirt or bacteria to accumulate.

Strength
H/HR pallets are exceptionally strong thanks to a special metal reinforcement. They can be loaded with up to 1000 kg when placed on racks.

The University of Applied Sciences Wädenswil/Switzerland (Department of Foodstuffs Microbiology)* has tested the Utz Hygiene Pallet together with some of the most frequently used competitive plastic pallets in an independent test to examine their hygienic quality. All plastic pallets made specially for the foodstuffs and pharmaceutical industry (with flat and slotted surface) were inoculated at a number of defined points with each of 6 test micro-organisms (escherichia coli, saccharomyces cerevisiae, aspergillus niger, pseudomonas fluorescens, bacillus cereus spores and taphylococcus capitits) and then cleaned. Prof. Dr. Corinne Gantenbein-Demarchi, Lecturer in Foodstuffs Biology, confirms: "The cleaning results show that the Utz Hygiene Pallet shows a better result in comparison with competitive products. This confirms the claim that the Utz Hygiene Pallet is the recommended product for use in sensitive zones in the foodstuffs area." (The analysis of the test results is with Georg Utz AG.)

Anti-slip protection

• Grip paint: fine Totally non-toxic textured paint that lends the pallet a rough, granular structure. Suitable for high anti-slip requirements in dry and wet areas. Recommended for relatively soft loads such as plastic containers and cardboard boxes. Extremely wellsuited to cleanroom and hygiene applications, very high abrasion resistance.
• Elastomer paint: The anti-slip function is created by the soft surface. The coating is suitable or all types of load, especially for hard surfaces such as ceramics, tinplate, glass etc. The smooth elastomer paint also exhibits good hygiene and cleanroom properties. The paint surface is totally harmless for contact with food and ideal for cleaning.
• Quartz sand: The quartz sand coating provides an almost perfect grip for the load. The millimeter-small, sharp sand grains grip firmly into the load. Suitable for relatively soft loads such as plastic containers, cardboard boxes, bagged goods. Limited suitability for hygiene applications. Recycling problematic.
• Safety edge: The 6 mm high safety edge holds the load on the pallet most effectively - especially all containers in Euro size. However, the lip restricts the loading and unloading of the pallet by sliding movements. The continuous safety edge is EHI-compatible. The surface of the pallet is smooth and thus perfectly suited to cleanroom and hygiene use.
